PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - Environmentalists are calling on Senator Lincoln Chafee to vote against a Senate budget plan.
The plan opens up the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge in Alaska to oil drilling -- something environmentalists oppose.
Matt
Auten of the Rhode Island Public Interest Research Group calls the
budget plan anti-environment, anti-consumer and anti-student.
Among the other provisions of the budget -- it cuts some social services while also cutting (b) billions of dollars in taxes.
The Republican Chafee has not said whether he will vote for the budget plan.
Democratic Senator Jack Reed has said he will vote against it, saying it includes draconian spending and tax cuts.
