Summertime is my favorite time of year, and not just for the weather. For Environment RhodeIsland, summer is the season when we lay the groundwork for our biggest victories, by speaking with more than 20,000 Rhode Islanders about our work and enlisting your help in building our organization.
From Westerly to Woonsocket and everywhere in between, our staff go door-to-door to recruit Environment Rhode Island members and build the support it takes to win substantialvictories for the environment.
The goal of this year’s summer outreach effort is tackle global warming pollution. There is no bigger issue facing our environment than global warming and our state and country are in desperate need of real solutions. With a new Congress in Washington, D.C., there is finally a real dialogue in our nation’s capital about global warming. But unless states like Rhode Island lead the way in identifying real solutions, it will take far too long to adopt a meaningful national solution to global warming.
Winning our Campaign to Fight Global Warming Now won’t be easy. In Rhode Island, powerful interests like power plant owners will be fighting hard against us, and the opposition is even more fierce and entrenched in our nation’s capital. However, we know that time is on our side. With strong support from our citizen members and our program staff fighting the good fight from the State House to the White House, we are confident we can eventually win the kinds of reforms needed to confront global warming.
Thank you, again, for your support of Environment Rhode Island and making our world a better place. Have a fun, safe and healthy summer.
