Clean Air

The entire state of Rhode Island fails to meet federal air quality standards, which means that we are all breathing unhealthy air. Pollution from personal cars and trucks, diesel trucks, buses and power plants are making Rhode Islanders sick, causing lost school and work days and costing our economy millions of dollars.

Rhode Island has made some progress in recent years by adopting more stringent tailpipe emission standards for personal cars and trucks, but more needs to be done. To bring Rhode Island back into compliance with air quality standards, Environment Rhode Island advocates using readily available technology to reduce pollution from diesel engines, fully enforcing the Clean Air Act and investing in alternatives like mass transit, wind and solar power.
