Dear Member of Congress:
We can repower America with clean energy, protect our environment, and transform our economy in the process -- putting millions of Americans to work building wind turbines, installing solar panels, weatherizing homes, and building the 100-miles-per-gallon cars of the future. President Obama has called for Congress to act. We urge you to support:
• Requiring utilities to generate at least 25 percent of the nation’s energy from renewable sources, such as wind and solar power, by 2025.
• Cutting energy use in new buildings by half and requiring utilities to use 15 percent less energy by 2020.
• Reducing global warming pollution by 35 percent by 2020 and by at least 80 percent by 2050.
• Holding Big Oil, Dirty Coal and other polluters accountable and making them pay for their global warming pollution.
Energy State progress on clean energy We helped enact energy-efficiency standards
for a variety of products in 11 states. We've worked with 25 states to
pass a renewable energy standards. And we've helped 12 states cut
global warming
pollution with clean cars programs. When enacted, these programs will
reduce gasoline
consumption by as much as 7.2 billion gallons per year in 2020 and save
consumers up to $16.7 billion annually at the pump in 2020. Read more.
